Lara Croft by Toybiz

The original Lara Croft from Tomb Raider was made by ToyBiz, who marketed one lone carded version of Lara in late 1997.

ToyBiz was able to save time (and keep costs down) in this test project by using the body of the 5" scale X-Men Robot Fighters Jubilee action figure with a newly-sculpted head.

This version of Lara featured "cloth" shorts and holsters, and came with an Atlantian Guard and an Evil Bat as her adversaries, as well as four weapons: 9 mm Barretta (listed as 0.9 mm on the cardback), Sub-Auto Uzi, M-16 rifle, and a "Street Sweeper."

According to ToyFare #7 (March 1998), ReSaurus Toys (makers of Duke Nukem action figures) had also wanted to do a Tomb Raider action figure.

Story of Lara: "Lara Croft, daughter of Lord Henshingly Croft, was raised to be an aristocrat from birth. After attending finishing school at the age of 21, Lara's marriage into wealth had seem assured, but on her way home from a skiing trip her chartered plane crashed deep in the heart of the Himalayas.

The only survivor, Lara learned to stay alive in hostile conditions a world away from her sheltered upbringins. Two weeks later when she walked into the village of Tokakeriby her experience had had a profound effect upon her. Unable to stand the claustraphobic suffocating atmosphere of upper-class British society, she realized that she was only truly alive when she was traveling alone."
